Obama Wins BIG in South Carolina Primary!

Early yesterday evening, the results of the Democratic Primary in South Carolina were announced. Barack Obama won, and he won BIG!

With more than twice as many votes as his nearest rival, Hillary Clinton, Obama garnered more votes than Clinton and John Edwards COMBINED! As for the ‘Billary campaign’, Clinton didn’t even stay around until the polls closed. She was so far behind that she took off for Tennessee while the votes were still being counted. In her speech in Tennessee, she congratulated Obama in as few words as possible, and quickly launched into her plans for Super Tuesday and winning the nomination. John Edwards, who desperately needed a win in his home state, came in third, far behind Clinton’s second place. He insists that he will continue in the race. Perhaps he knows something that the political experts and the rest of the world doesn’t. Time will tell.

As bad a bashing as Clinton took in the primary, it was nothing compared to the bashing both she and Bill Clinton are taking from the media in the morning after. Pundits are questioning just how much damage Bill’s comments did to her campaign, not only in South Carolina, but in all of the upcoming voting states. It appears that more than ever, people are questioning just which Clinton is running for office. But, both the candidate and her spouse are seasoned campaigners. They have the money, the organization and the determination to keep going.

Was South Carolina a fluke, because of the high percentage of registered African-American voters who turned out? Well, Obama was able to pull the majority of votes from every sector of constituants, except for white females, who split their votes between Clinton and Edwards pretty evenly.

With the last big primary before Super Tuesday looming in Florida, in just three days, the Republicans have been busy campaigning in the Sunshine State. And sometimes it’s not pretty.

While the Republican debate on Saturday was courteous and full of back-handed compliments (like Mike Huckabee stating that he didn’t think John McCain was too old to be President), the campaigning is getting serious. John McCain and Mitt Romney are exchanging the lead back-and-forth, depending on the poll, while Rudy Guiliani’s campaign appears to be fizzling. Mike Huckabee’s numbers don’t look good either. Oops, I almost forgot to mention Ron Paul who is also trailing. But then, this Presidential election campaign has fooled pollsters on more than one occasion already. Tuesday’s results in Florida should be interesting.
